Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a severe illness that affects approximately 16% of people worldwide. Even though its etiology and pathogenesis are still unknown, evidence suggests that changes in signaling pathways, neuroplasticity, neuroinflammation, and neurometabolics are at the basis of this pathology. We will address the function of HDAC4 in MDD, since it is implicated in neuronal and synapses regulation in a variety of neuropsychiatric disorders, and we will verify whether positive HDAC4 modulation exerts antidepressant-like effects in stressed mice
